When The Brook Dried Up

1 Kings 17:1-9

Elijah Proclaims a Drought
1 And Elijah the Tishbite, of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the LORD God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, except at my word.”
2 Then the word of the LORD came to him, saying, 3 “Get away from here and turn eastward, and hide by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan. 4 And it will be that you shall drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.”
5 So he went and did according to the word of the LORD, for he went and stayed by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan. 6 The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the brook. 7 And it happened after a while that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.
Elijah and the Widow

8 Then the word of the LORD came to him, saying, 9 “Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. See, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.”

What do you do when the brook dries up. We are experimenting another season of change. We are now in the fall season. When the season changes in the natural it begins to change in the spirit. Those who were for you are now against you. The traps won't last because no weapon formed against you shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). God is ready to do the impossible. The impossible means that it is not supposed to happen.

In this season you can't cry over the subtraction. He's doing it for your protection. Sometimes less is better. The less you have the less drama you have with people. He's getting ready to change the season around you. Anytime the devil sends distractions God is getting ready to do something. Again, no weapon formed against you shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). Learn how to get a licking and keep on ticking. You will have to go through some things to get to your blessing.

1 Kings 17:1

1 And Elijah the Tishbite, of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the LORD God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, except at my word.”

Elijah shows up out of nowhere and said that there would be no rain. He actually had the audacity to say that. Remember that death and life are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). Somethings can't happen because of our tongues. The devil tempted Jesus when he fasted for 40 days:

Matt 4:1-11

Satan Tempts Jesus
1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. 3 Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”
4 But He answered and said, “It is written,
‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’
5 Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, 6 and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written:

He shall give His angels charge over you,’
   and,

‘ In their hands they shall bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’

7
Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the LORD your God.’
8
Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.”
10
Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.’
11
Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.

The devil had to back down after Jesus spoke the Word. How much so when we speak the Word? Speak life from this point on.

Elijah was a quiet assassin. He didn't put a title by his name. You don't need a title when you have power. When you speak and things happen people will give you a title.

Matt 18:6

6 “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

Pray for those who have been messing with you. There is something about you God likes. You may not have the attention others have but you are on your way. You are getting ready to make some noise for Jesus. You'' be the next one to ___________.

1 King 17:2

2 Then the word of the LORD came to him, saying,

When you are in a situation you should need a Word. What's your Word? Be healed, be out of debt, be delivered, prosperity in the name of Jesus. The Word

Joshua 1:8

8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

Psalm 119:11

11 Your word I have hidden in my heart,
That I might not sin against You.

When you get the Word inside you won't want to use swear words when something happens. When the devil comes against your marriage you will speak the Word for example:

Mark 10:9

9 Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”

When your finances are in trouble you will say:

Prov 10:22

22 The blessing of the LORD makes one rich,
And He adds no sorrow with it.

Deut 28:3 KJV

3Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field.

That is the difference between the mature and immature Christian. It's easy to get frustrated but when the Word is in you, you are mad at the devil and not the people.

1 Kings 17:3

3 “Get away from here and turn eastward, and hide by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan.

The Jordan is a place of blessing. Moses didn't cross the Jordan because of his sin. Joshua had to cross it to get to the promise land. Cherith is a place of separation. If you ever cross the Jordan you'll have to be separated from some people even your family members. Learn to cut people off in a Godly way. How bad do you want it? Praise God for the separation just like you praise Him when He gives you someone. You can't carry baggage to the new place. Airlines are now charging for baggage because we are in a recession and with less baggage you get to your destination faster. Drop off the baggage because you are paying for baggage you don't need.

  1 Kings 17:4-6

4 And it will be that you shall drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.”
5 So he went and did according to the word of the LORD, for he went and stayed by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan. 6 The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the brook.

God commanded the ravens to feed him. This is significant. Ravens are considered dirty and they are not suppose to touch the man of God. God is getting ready to use the dirty things to bless you.

Prov 13:22

22 A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children,
But the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous.

God is getting ready to release money to the broke people. God will use the system of the world to bless you if He has to. You don't have to play the lotto. Just trust God. God will speak to anybody to bless you. You can't choose who you want to be nice to. Just because someone looks like they don't have anything doesn't mean they don't.

 1 Kings 17:7

7 And it happened after a while that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.

Elijah understood seasons. Just because things look good now doesn't mean it will stay that way. You complain instead of getting the next Word.

 1 Kings 17:8

8 Then the word of the LORD came to him, saying,

You just need another word. Concerning seasonal blessings make sure you are hearing from God. Stay on course.

John 10:27

27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.

Gal 6:9

9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.

When the brook dries up don't you dry up. You are the head and not the tail, the lender and not the borrower (Deut 28:13,44). Won't God fix it? Won't he do it, turn it around, heal your body, bless your money?
