Who is the Holy Ghost?

Romans 8:26-27 NKJ

26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

Every Christian should be walking in power. With it you'll be able to encourage, lay hands, and prophesy by the Holy Ghost. Just because you see people move, jerk, etc doesn't mean that the Holy Ghost is there. That is not to say that someone doesn't react that way because of the Holy Ghost. The devil is a good actor as well.

The Holy Ghost is not an "it". In the Old Testament He is called the Holy Spirit and in the New Testament He is called the Holy Ghost. There is no difference. There is one God in 3 persons.

Who is the Holy Ghost?

1. He has intellect.

2. He has his own personality

3. The Holy Spirit has His own will but it lines up with God and Jesus. You can't question why someone is gifted. He gives the gift to whom He wills. You have gifts others don't.

1 Cor 12:11 NKJ

11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.

When you have the Holy Ghost revealing comes. The person can feel something.

4. He is the 3rd person of the God head.

5. The Holy Spirit wants to fellowship with us.

2 Cor 13:14 NKJ

14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.

John 6:44 NKJ

44No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

You can't take the credit for getting saved because: 1.someone prayed for you and 2.The Holy Spirit was working on you. You feel convicted about living right.

We have to jump start ourselves and train ourselves to hear His voice. It on us to keep the communion up. We can't talk too much to hear.

John 10:27 NKJ

27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.

God deals with us according our level. He won't talk to you like He talks to others.

Ezek 36:26-27 NKJ

26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them.

When you have the Holy Ghost for real He will cause you to walk in His statute. There's nothing like hearing God. You don't feel good when you get convicted.

6. He will cause you to walk right.

Prov 1:22-23 NKJ

22 “ How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity?
For scorners delight in their scorning,
      And fools hate knowledge.
       23 Turn at my rebuke;
      Surely I will pour out my spirit on you;
I will make my words known to you.

You don't have time to mess around with sin.

7. The Holy Ghost will reveal the bible to you. The New American Standard is a good translation for those who are brand new Christians/bible readers. It puts the bible in every day language without robbing the text.

2 Cor 2:6 NKJ

6 who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

The Holy Ghost will speak to you through God's Word. Pray before you read.

8. You can't call Jesus Lord but through the Holy Ghost.

1 Cor 12:3 NKJ

3 Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.

There is no way you can know Jesus is the Son of God unless the Holy Spirit reveals it to you. It's the Holy Ghost that has you in church.

9. The Holy Ghost can be resisted/rejected

Acts 7:51 NKJ

51You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you.

Eph 4:30 NKJ

30 Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

You know how you feel when you are rejected. That's how the Holy Spirit feels. How many blessings have been blocked because we didn't listen to the Counselor?  You know how you really know God is speaking to you? You ask if that is God speaking. Don't resist Him but do resist the devil. If you let the devil ride he will drive.

Pastor Brown's theological opinion:

Acts 1:8 KJV

8But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Upon salvation the Holy Ghost comes in. You repent and washed in His blood. The Holy Ghost is immediately at work. Speaking in tongues is a sign that you are baptized with the Holy Ghost. It's different from the Holy Ghost living inside of you after you get saved.

Everyone can be baptized with the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking tongues. You will not go to hell if you don't speak in tongues. Those who do speak in tongues however are at an advantage. The devil can't understand.

1 Cor 14:2-4 NKJ

2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. 3 But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men. 4 He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.

The Holy Spirit is speaking to God through you. Jesus breathed on His disciples for them to receive the Holy Spirit:

John 20:22 KJV

22And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:

Luke 24:49 NKJ

49 Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”

Jesus told the disciples to tarry until they received power. They had to be of one accord.

Acts 2:1-12 NKJ

1 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
5 And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven. 6 And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language. 7 Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, “Look, are not all these who speak Galileans? 8 And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born? 9 Parthians and Medes and Elamites, those dwelling in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya adjoining Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, 11 Cretans and Arabs—we hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful works of God.” 12 So they were all amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “Whatever could this mean?”

The tongues that they were speaking was not the prayer language of tongues. It was other languages. There are 3 different tongues: prayer tongues, prophetic tongues and other languages. When you speak in tongues you build yourself up. However you shouldn't speak in tongues to give a message without an interpreter to avoid confusion:

1 Cor 14:26-33:

26 How is it then, brethren? Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification. 27 If anyone speaks in a tongue, let there be two or at the most three, each in turn, and let one interpret. 28 But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in church, and let him speak to himself and to God. 29 Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge. 30 But if anything is revealed to another who sits by, let the first keep silent. 31 For you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be encouraged. 32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. 33 For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.
