The Power of Money - 10 Reasons to Tithe

1. Biblical principal.

Tithing was in operation before the law.

Gen 14:20
20And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.
Melchizedek was Jesus and he also showed up in the fiery furnace. (See Daniel 3:25 - 27)

Gen 28:20 -22
20And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,
21So that I come again to my father's house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God:
22And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God's house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.

It brings God's protection, presence and provision.

2. It is the holy part and belongs to God.

The 90% belongs to you but the 10% belongs to God. The first thing that needs to be done is take God's part out.

Gen: 2:17

17But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

3. It brings honor to God.

When we don't tithe we are dishonoring God.

Prov 3:9
9Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:

4. God is our source.

Phil 4:19
19But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Some people don't tithe because they do not believe that God is their source. Sometimes God will allow us to lose our jobs to show us that He is our source.

5. Jesus said we should.

Matt 23:23
23Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

Tithing by itself is not enough. Don't expect God to bless you just because you are tithing but you are not doing other things that are required by God such as loving your loving your neighbor.  The bible also says to leave your gift at the altar if you have a problem with a brother in Christ:

Matt 5:24
24Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

6.We don't want to rob God.

Mal 3:8
8Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.

There is a difference between a thief and a robber. A thief does not want to get caught but a robber doesn't care. We tithe out of love and not fear. There are three different types of people:

a) Committed - These people will tithe no matter what.
b) Uncommitted - They are thinking about tithing but will give offerings.
c) Uninformed - They don't know about tithing.

7. It positions us for a supernatural increase.

Mal 3:10
10Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

Notice that God said that he would open up the windows and not doors. There are more windows in a house than doors.

8. You believe in your storehouse (church)

Mal 3:10

10Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

 9. So God can guard and protect our increase

Mal 3:11
11And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts.

When we tithe the devil won't be able to access what belongs to us. There is a protection over money and is like insurance.

10. We want to be able to test God.

Mal 3:10

10Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

This is the only time God asks us to test him. You can remind God of his Word and put faith pressure on Him.
